There are different choices of residence in Germany for the initial days on arrival. The average rate of a hotel room is about 90 Euros per night. Costs of renting two- or three-room apartment is between 500 to 1200 Euros per month depending on its location. Youth hostels usually priced from 20 to 30 Euros per night. Apartment search may take much time especially in metropolitan regions adjacent to Munich or Frankfurt. In such cases it is reasonable to consult a real estate agent. Like in other countries the rental cost varies considerably depending on a region. Cost of rent together with additional expenditures, such as heating, water and gas charges will be about 14 Euros per square meter in big cities. The average cost in small towns and rural area is about 8 Euros per square meter.
Everyone who lives in Germany has to register in local municipal authority. You must do it no later than one week after moving. You must take with your identity documents, rental contract and other documents that may be required (more detailed information can be found at local authorities).
