Recruiting from Eastern Europe

Due to the heavy demand for skilled labour ERA is constantly recruiting from Eastern Europe.

Eastern European Worker

Whilst availability figures have reduced over the years, there are still many skilled operators looking for work in Eastern Europe.

The main problem in the past was the language barrier, however as skills have improved and a generational change taken place this is not the problem it used to be.

Our advice to employers looking to recruit from Eastern Europe is:

  • Start your recruitment drives early
  • Understand the level of support inbound workers will need
  • Produce accurate job descriptions
  • Offer a fair salary
  • Prepare training packages

In our opinion the main historical problem was offering very low salaries, this produced a multitude of negatives, here are a few examples:

  • Poorly motivated workers
  • High manpower turnover rates
  • Only attracted poorly skilled workers
  • Unacceptable accommodation conditions
  • High levels of training required

Due to the number of negatives produced from offering low salaries, ERA changed their policy. Unless remuneration is set at an acceptable level a requirement will be turned down. It has taken time, but employers now realise if they want to recruit from Eastern Europe tradesman and specialist workers need to be paid a fair salary.
